Human Rights
Congratulations to Qatar on signing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This totals 100 signatories.
The Convention will enter into force 30 days after the 20th country ratifies the treaty, but so far only Jamaica has taken the step of ratification.
The UN Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities estimates that the next 19 ratifications could be reached by the end of 2007. http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=23208&Cr=disable&Cr1
Congratulations from Disabled Peoples’ International to Ambassador Luis Gallegos, the first Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, who will receive the American Association of Persons with Disabilities’ (AAPD) Justice for All Award on July 26 in Washington, DC, USA. The Award recognizes his contribution to activism, advocacy and the UN Convention, and leadership in protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.
Funding Opportunity
The Higher Education Commission, Pakistan, is inviting applications from public sector universities to fund conferences on raising awareness about the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the BMF (Biwako Millennium Framework). Please read
